Day 18: 347 days left…96 books to go!

Exodus 1-2  The Israelies Oppressed, The Birth of Moses
  • After Joseph passed away, a new king was throned in Egypt and as the Israelite nation grew in numbers, he decided to deal shrewdly with them..."So they put slave maters over them to opress them with forced labor...But the more they were oppressed, the more they multiplied and spread; so the Egyptians came to dread the Israelites and worked them ruthlessly..."  Chapter 1  Verses 11-13
  • Pharoh then declared that all male Hebrew newborns be thrown into the Nile river to stop their people from multiplying....but inspite of this decree, Moses was born & through his mother's faith & genius, his life was miraculously saved and he was brought-up in Pharoh's court...
  • "The Israelites groaned in their slavery and cried out, and their cry for help because of their slavery went up to God."  Chapter 2  Verse 23
Matthew 15: 1-28  Clean and Unclean, The Faith of the Canaanite Woman
  • Jesus acosts the Pharisees in this reading because they are worried about the Disciples' not washing their hands before they eat....Jesus calls them on their own sin, "Thus you nullify the word of God for the sake of your tradition..."  Verse 6  "These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me.  They worship me in vain; their teachings are but rules taught by men."  Verses 8-9  It can be so easy to be caught-up in rules taught by men...and I so often wonder how much of my faith is honoring God with my lips but having a heart that is far from Him....Jesus addressed the Pharisees' initial complaint against the Disciples...."What goes into a man's mouth does not make him unclean, but what comes out of his mouth, that is what makes him unclean."  Verse 11
  • Now to anyone reading this...the rest of my reading today, verses 21-28, The Faith of the Canaanite Woman....this entire story I do not understand....if someone could provide insight, that would be great!  I actually found an explanation on this webiste...but it still doesn't fully make sense to me:  bibleexplained.com
